Q
If a molecule has delocalised electrons in it, we know that they will be specifically the ______ electrons.
A
Pi.
Electrons that are involved in bonding may either be in a sigma bond, or a pi bond. For an electron to be delocalised it must be able to extend over at least three atoms. Electrons in a sigma bond will always be confined in the bond between just those two atoms. So we can not necessarily say that a bonding electron will be delocalised, even if we know that there is delocalised electrons present.
