Q

Morphogens

A

Diffusible molecules that can specify positions in the embryo by setting up concentration gradients.

Bicoid is an example of a morphogen because it’s a DNA binding protein and the proteins they will turn on [ex. Eve stripe 2] are very important

Gestl claims all 4 are morphogens, internet disagrees

Q

Insulators

A

DNA sequences that bind specialized proteins and have 2 specific properties:
1. Buffer genes from the repressing effects of heterochromatin
2. Can block the action of enhancers

Q

The β-interferon enhanceosome

A

the transcription factors recruit a co-activator (CBP), which binds both to the transcription factors and to RNA polymerase II, initiating transcription
