Explanan: statement (or series of statements?) that provides the explanation. Includes a universal law and covering law.

Principle behind D-N Explanataions

A

aka Hempel-Oppenheim, Covering-Law Model
We can use things we already know to understand new things. There is no new information–we just apply some law to answer some question (such as how fast an object will fall after 2 seconds)
