Q

how is lactic acid produced in anaerobic respiration?

A

pyruvate is reduced to lactase (accepts H atoms) & reduced NAD is oxidised to NAD

Q

how is lactase used by the body?

A

transferred to liver (toxic)
- broken down aerobically -> creates oxygen debt

Q

how is ethanol produced?

A
  • bacteria, fungi (yeast) & waterlogged roots:
  • pyruvate loses 1 CO2 -> ethanal (acetyl aldehyde) -> ethanol (by accepting/reduced by H+ from reduced NAD)
