What is an internet browser?
Browser to access WWW that displays HTML files. A website consists of one or more pages of information that can be accessed by other computers. Enter website address in uniform resource location, URL translated into unique address to sites webserver
What is a webserver?
Computer that hosts website, accessing site known as request, designed to handle lots of requests. Requested information downloaded in packets.
What is an ISP?
Internet is a wide area network of interconnected computers, ISP needed to access internet. Modem used to connect computer to internet.
What is a protocol?
An agreed format or set of rules to transmit data
What is HTTP?
Hyper Text Transfer Protocols, governs transmission of data via internet, it is an access protocol. Request-response action
What is HTTPS?
Same as HTTP but data sent and received encrypted so only client and server can access it.
What is TCP?
Transmission control protocol, actual transfer of information governed by TCP handles data and ensures its error free
What is HTML?
Hypertext Markup Language, an HTML document consists of two parts content to be displayed and instructions to interpret that content. Markups are instructions on how content is to be formatted, structured and displayed.
What is CSS?
Cascading Style Sheets, preferable to separate structure and content, due to dynamic sites changing style without needing to change content.
What is IP address?
Devices network address known as IP address needed to locate device and send data to correct recipients. 32 bit number written in 4 groups of 3 numbers each.
What is MAC?
Media access control, uniquely identifies device on internet refers to network interface. usually made of 48 bits shown as six groups of hex digits and first half identity of manufacturer and 2nd half serial number
Universally administrative address (UAA)
Set by manufacturer
Locally administrative address (LAA)
Changed to bypass restrictions
What is URL?
Made up off access protocol and domain name, URL translated by domain into 32 bit binery IP
What are cookies?
Packet of information sent by webserver used to save preferences and track the user
