affirmative familiar tú commands
formed using third person singular present tense form of verb
ex. hablar > él habla> habla
irregular affirmative familiar tú commands
decir > di hacer > haz ir > ve poner > pon salir > sal ser > sé tener > ten venir > ven
affirmative familiar vosotros commands
take infinitive form of verb
remove “r” and replace with “d”
ex. hablar > hablad
affirmative familiar vosotros commands using the reflexive pronoun “os”
when the affirmative command is used with the reflexive pronoun “os”, the final d is dropped
ex. bañarse > bañad > bañaos
the -ir verbs take a written accent over the “i” when the reflexive pronoun “os” is added
ex.vestirse > vestid > vestíos
only verb that doesn’t drop final “d” when “os” is added is irse
ex. irse > ¡Idos! > Go away!
negative familiar tú and vosotros commands
negative tú and vosotros commands use the corresponding forms of the present subjunctive
ex. no hables tú
ex. no vendáis vosotros
affirmative formal usted and ustedes commands
Formed by dropping -o ending of first person singular (yo) of the present indicative
usted: add -e for -ar verbs and -a for -er/-ir verbs
ustedes: add -en for -ar verbs and -an for -er/-ir verbs
when pronouns are involved in commands, pronouns must be added to the end of the command
consequently, written accent must be added on stressed syllable
ex. póngalas aquí
negative formal usted and ustedes commands using pronouns
pronouns must come before the verb
ex. no las ponga allí
irregular formal usted and ustedes commands
Dar > (Ud.) dé (Uds.) den
Estar > (Ud.) esté (Uds.) estén
Ser > (Ud.) sea (Uds.) sean
Ir > (Ud.) vaya (Uds.) vayan
affirmative first person plural (nosotros) commands
can be expressed in two ways:
-by using nosotros command formed by dropping -o ending in yo form, adding -emos for -ar verbs and -amos for -er/-ir verbs
-by using expression vamos a + infinitive
verb ir uses present tense form “vamos”
in direct affirmative commands, object pronouns are attached to verb and written accent is added on stressed syllable
if pronouns nos or se are attached to verb, final -s of verb is dropped before adding pronoun ex. sentemos + nos > sentémonos
negative first person plural (nosotros) commands
pronouns must come before verb
when using the verb ir, irregular form is used “vayamos”
ex. no vayamos al teatro
