Q

Epithelial

A
  • forms the linings, coverings, and glandular tissue of the body
  • protects underlying structures
  • act as barriers, passage and excretion of substances
  • Consists of layers of cells (one kind of cells inside & a different kind outside)
  • Cells are packed tightly together to form continuous sheets

Skin, intestines, lungs

Q

Connective

A
  • Protects, supports, and binds together other body tissues

adipose tissue (fat), cartilage, bone, blood, and lymph

A

involuntary muscle involuntary movements like regulation of blood flow through vital organs and movement of materials along digestive and urinary passageways.

Q

Skeletal Muscle

A
  • muscle that connects bone and skin
  • help hold the skeleton together
  • give the body shape
  • help with everyday movements (Voluntary Muscle)

shoulder muscles, hamstring muscles and abdominal muscles

Q

Nervous

A
  • Composed of neurons that receive and send electrical signals in the body
  • Respond to stimuli and transmits impulses and together with supporting cells make up the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.

Q

How do forensic anthropologists use bone to determine sex

A
  • Female-
    Skull: round eye sockets, v-shaped mandible, smoother frontal bone
    Pelvis: rounded pelvis, wider pubic arch
  • Male
    Skull: square eye sockets, u-shaped mandible, pronounced frontal bone, heart shaped pelvis, angled-in coccyx

Q

How do forensic anthropologists use bone to determine race

A

Determined best by skull
* European
More “surprised” eye sockets, forehead aligns with nose and chin in a straight line
* Africain
More square eye sockets, forehead more pronounced, mandible more pronounced
* Asian
More rectangular eye sockets, nose is more vertical, chin is receding

Q

Formula to estimate height using **Femur

A

Male: ( 2.32 x MLF ) + 65.53 +- 3.94

Female: ( 2.32 x MLF ) + 54.10 +- 3.72

MLF = length of femur (USING CM)

Q

Formula to estimate height using **Humerus

A

Male: (2.97 x MLH ) + 73.5 +- 3.94
Female: (3.14 x MLH) + 65 +- 3.72
