1.2 Respiratory System Flashcards
Diffusion
Movement of respiratory gases from a high concentration or partial pressure to an area of low concentration or partial pressure
Tidal Volume
Volume of air breathed in or out per breath
Inspiratory Reserve Volume (IRV)
Volume of air that can be forcibly inspired after a normal breath
Expiratory Reserve Volume (ERV)
Volume of air that can be forcibly breathed out after a normal breath
Residual Volume
The amount of air that remains in the lungs after maximal expiration
Partial pressure
Pressure exerted by an individual has when it exists within a mixture of gases
Proprioreceptors
Sensory receptors found in muscles and joints that provide information to the central nervous system about position and movement
