12 - PNS and Motor System: the Motor Unit Flashcards
What levels give off a white communicating ramus to a sympathetic trunk ganglion?
Thoracic and upper lumbar
Arm supplied dermatomes
C5-T1
Trunk supplied dermatomes
T dermatomes
Nipple line supplied dermatome
T4/T5
Umbilicus supplied dermatome
T10
Leg supplied dermatomes
L1-S2
Saddle supplied dermatomes
S2-S5
Perianal region supplied dermatomes
S3-S5
Upper extremity myotomes
C5-T1
Lower extremity myotomes
L1/L2-S2
Describe the pathway of the somatic motor fiber
Ventral horn -> ventral root
Describe the pathway of sympathetic visceral motor fibers
(From T1-L3) Lateral horn cell -> ventral root -> spinal nerve -> white communicating ramus -> symp. paravertebral ganglion -> grey communicating ramus -> w/ somatic efferent fibers
Describe the pathway of parasympathetic visceral motor fibers
(From S2-S4) Ventral root -> pelvic nerves (should be similar to symp. visc. motor fibers)
Describe the pathway of somatic and visceral sensory fibers
Enter by dorsal root -> DRG
From the outside inwards, name the parts of a peripheral nerve fiber
Epineurium > perineurium > fascicles > endoneurium > Schwann cells > nerve
