  • shalfeev in charge of the mounted police, was dragged from his horse and shot.

  • after nicolas train diverted 200 miles south of petrograd on march 1st nicolas cheif of general staff tried to convince him to abdicate
  • he agreed a day later, him and his fam placed under house arrest along with most of his council ministers

  • generally concidered by workers, soldiers and peasants to be more democratic

WHAT WERE THE AREAS OF CONFLICT IN THE DUAL AUTHORITY

A
  • order no.1 - stated soldiers and workers should obey the PG but only when soviet agreed with pg decisions
  • PG wanted to improve discipline in army to stop more desertions but soviet encouraged soldiers to defy authority and assert their rights
  • PG wanted an all out effort to win the war, while soviet wanted to end Russians involvement as quick as possible as long as this didn’t mean giving up much territory
  • although PG committed to holding elections for consituengt assembly, any election would be won by SRs which pg wanted to avoid
  • ## soviet saw its role as protecting workers soldiers and peasants rights. was obstacle for PG to get anything done and soviet did not offer any alternative leadership of its own
