1.2 Eukaryotic Cells Flashcards
A rigid structure that surrounds the cell membrane and provide support to the cell.
Cell Wall
A cell organelle composed of RNA and protein; the site of protein synthesis.
Ribosome
A system of membranes that is found in a cell’s cytoplasm and the assist in the production, processing, and transport of proteins and in the production of lipids.
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Eukaryotic cells, the cell organelle that is surrounded by two membranes and that is the site of cellular respiration.
Mitochondrion
Cell organelle that helps make and package minerals to be transported out of the cell.
Golgi Complex
a small cavity or sac that contains materials in a eukaryotic cell; forms when part of the cell membrane surrounds the materials to be taken into the cell transported within the cell.
Vesicle
A cell organelle that contains digestive enzymes.
Lysosome
The smallest unit that preforms all life’s process.
Cell
A complex sugar that most animals can NOT digest.
Cellulose
is a fungi in the cell walls
Chitin
a protective barrier that encloses a cell
cell membrane
is a web of proteins in the cytoplasm.
cytoskeleton
is a large organelle in a eukaryotic cell.
nucleus
is where a cell begins to make its ribosomes
nucleolus
is anyone of about 20 different organic molecules that are used to make proteins.
amino acids
a group of compounds that do not dissolve in water
lipids
is a lipid that contains phosphorus.
phospholipid
are “water fearing”
hydrophobic
the process by which plants and algae use sunlight, carbon dioxide and water.
photosynthesis
is a green pigment that traps energy of sunlight to make sugar
chlorophyll
is a visicle in some plant and fungi cells they act like lysosome.
vacuole
are organelles in plant and algae cells. happen during the process of photosynthesis.
chloroplasts
are “water loving”
hydrophilic
