Aciclovir Cream, 5%?
Herpes labialis in non-immunocomp pts.
Apply at prodromal stage of a herpes labialis lesion to maximise benefits.
Aciclovir cream, 5%. Apply to lesion every 4 hours (five times daily) for 5 days.
Aciclovir tablets, 200mg
Herpes simplex infections in immunocompromised patients and severe infections in non-immunocompromised patients.
Aciclovir, 200mg. 1 tablet, 5x/day for 5 days.
Aciclovir tablets, 800mg
Varicella-zoster infections (shingles) to reduce pain, and reduce the incidence of post-herpetic neuralgia and viral shedding.
Start ideally at diagnosis or within 72 hours of onset of rash.
Aciclovir tablets, 800mg (shingles treatment pack).
1 tablet, 5 times daily for 7 days.
Aciclovir oral suspension, 200 mg/5ml
For children with herpes simplex infections in immuncomp patients and severe infections in non-immnocomp patients.
Can use oral suspension or 200mg tablets.
6 months-1 year = 100mg five times daily.
2-17 years = 200mg five times daily.
Amoxicillin, 500mg
Dental abscesses if immediate drainage is not achieved using local measures, or in cases of spreading infection (swelling, cellulitis, lymph node involvement) or systemic involvement (fever, malaise), all of which suggest that the immune system alone is not able to adequately manage this infection.
Amoxicillin capsules, 500mg. 1 capsule 3x/day for 5 days.
Can double dose in severe infection in adults and children 12-17.
OR in ANUG and Pericoronitis if metronidazole contraindicated:
Amoxicillin Capsules, 500mg. 1 capsule 3x/day for 3 days.
