- othello also seems honest and open, as he knows he has nothing to hide

- the demand for othello shows how important he is in the military

- brabantio suggests that desdemona was protected in her house

- brabantio believes it is probable that othello drugged desdemona, as there is no other reason that she would go with him
- othello is corrupting society simply by being there with desdemona; he is influencing her
