What is the relationship between Police and the courts?

A

The police provide the courts with evidence/ giving statements, and transport and hold defendants to and from court.

What is the relationship between Police and the CPS?

A

Police take advice from the CPS on charging suspects. The police will also provide the CPS with any evidence they require to build their case so they can be taken to court.

A

Police will collect/ arrest individuals in breach of their probation terms/ licenses and take them to prison. Police work with probation services and prisons in managing sex offenders which live within areas

A

What is the relationship between the CPS and the courts?

A

The CPS will put together a bundle for court that contains everything the judge needs to see for the pending trial. The CPS will prepare and present the case to the court using an experienced advocate. The CPS will provide anything the judge requests.

A

CPS will advise the police how to charge the suspects. The CPS also request evidence collected by the police to help build their case.

A

Probation services will update the court with an breaches and of licenses/ ill behaviour & prepare reports. Prison services also keep the court updated on behaviour.

A

Represent the crown & are responsible for bringing cases to court for prosecution when a crime has been committed. It must be within the ‘public interest’ to prosecute and they must abide by the Full Code Test

A

Responsible for providing the courts with up-to-date guidelines on the sentence tariffs for every offence. They also try to help members of the public understand more about sentencing
