1.1.5 Newtons laws Flashcards
What is Newton’s 1st law?
The law of inertia. An object will remain in motion (or stationary) unless an external force acts on it.
What is Newton’s 2nd law?
Law of acceleration. F=M x A
An increase in velocity of a moving object is directly proportional to the force applied and inversely proportional to objects mass. The object will accelerate in direction of external force.
What is Newton’s 3rd law?
Law of reaction. For every force there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Give an example for Newton’s 1st law.
Before kicking a ball for a penalty or free kick in football. The football remains stationary until the footballer exerts a force on it.
What is an example of Newton’s 2nd law of motion?
The faster the arm swing (acceleration) the more force is exerted on a spiked volleyball at the moment of contact.
What is an example of Newton’s 3rd law of motion?
In weight lifting the lifter exerts a force on the weight to hold it above their head, gravity also exerts a force equally but in opposite direction back to ground.
