11.4 Flashcards
What is pneumatics?
Using a pressurised or compressed gas as a source of power
What are pneumatics used for on aircraft?
Engine starting Cabin pressurisation Air conditioning Wing anti-icing Air driven pumps Air motors for slats
What needs to be as constant as possible in any pneumatic system for it to work effectively?
Air pressure and temperature
What is the main air source on jet aircraft?
The engine compressor
What supplies the pneumatic system when the aircraft is grounded?
Outside air or high pressure ground connectors
What changes when thrust changes?
Amounts of air pressure
What is a pressure regulator used for?
Maintains a constant level of pressure and bleed air supply at high engine speeds
What is a pressure regulator also known as?
A bleed valve
How many compressor stages is air pressure bled from?
2
What are the compressor stages known as in pneumatic terms?
Low pressure compressor- IP (intermediate pressure)
High pressure compressor- HP (high pressure)
What does the check valve in the high pressure compressor prevent?
Protects the engine compressor against backflow
What increases with engine thrust?
Air temperature
Where does the built in pre-cooler get its air from?
Engine fan duct
Where is pneumatic air distributed via?
Ducts
What are the 5 ducts known as?
Left wing Right wing Pylon APU Crossover
