What is the purpose of close order drill?
1) To move units from 1 place to another in a standard, orderly manner while maintaining best appearance possible.
2) Provide simple formations that combat formations can easily be formed from.
3) Teach discipline by prompt automatic response to orders.
4) Increase confidence of junior officers and Non-comm. officers by giving proper command and control of drill troops.
5) Give marines opportunity to handle individual weapons
