11.3 Graphical Techniques Flashcards
What are the two types of graph used?
Sketched graphs - aces are labelled but there is no scale
Drawn graphs - the axes are labelled and have scales.
What is the independent variable?
What is changed in an experiment.
What is a dependent variable?
what is measured in an experiment.
What must the line of best fit of a graph be?
A straight line and pass through the origin for a proportional relationship.
What does the gradient of a graph show?
How much one quantity is affected by another quantity. If the gradient is large then a small change in the independent variable has a large effect on the dependent variable.
How are the units of the gradient found?
By driving the units of the quantity on the y axis by the its of the quantity on the x axis.
How do you find the gradient for a curve?
By drawing a tangent and finding the gradient of the tangent.
What are the units of the y intercept?
The same as the units of the quantity on the y axis.
