What is peripheral
A piece of hardware that can be connected to the cpu to provide input, output and backing storage for the computer system
What is an input device
A peridpheral device such as a keyboard and microphone thag allow data to be entered into a computer system
What is an output device ?
A peripheral device such as a printer, display unit or speaker that translates signals from the computer into a format the user can understand
What is a storage device
A peripheral device that allows the user to sort data in an electronical form for a longer period of time when the computer is switched off
What is storage media
Collective name for the different types of storage materials used to hold data
What is magnetic storage
Technique used to store data using polarised magnetic dots
Polarity of the dits is used to represent a 1 or 0
What is flash storage
A terms for non volatile memory devices that store binary data in electrical curicuits
What is optical storage
Technique of storage that uses discs. Data is stored as marks on reflective surface of the disc
As pits and lands
What is rom
Read only memory that can be read from but not written too
Non volatile and contains bios to start up computer
What is ram
Random access memory in which the locations can be accessed directly in any order
Volatile and contains current data and programs including operating system
What is virtual storage
A method of using shared storage device sometimes connected to the internet so user can access it as if it were local storage
