11.2 Flashcards
in heredity, and genetics, make you who you are
genes
where one hthing can repoduce by itself
asexual
cell divides into two
mitosis
sexualreproduction
where two things repuduce together, to make an living thing
where a cell makes a copy of DNA before reproducing!
Replication
Protean producing factories, in the cytoplasm
Ribosomes
What process is RNA produced through
Transcript
Where ribosomes convert the RNA information through Functional protein
Translation
I discovered much about heredity and is known as the father of genetics
Gregor Mendel
Any of the different forms of a gene for a particular trait
Allele
Refers to an organism whose two alleles for a given gene are identical
Homozygous
Refers to an organism whose two alleles for a different gene are different
Heterozygous
Shows up in the offspring even if an allele for a different trait is also present this fact Is known as the law of dominance
Dominant trait
A trait that does not appear in the offspring when the dominant allele is present
Recessive trait
The actual combination of alleles that an organism has for a particular trait
Genotype
The appearance that results from the genotype
Phenotype
Law that whenever two heterozygous organisms are crossed then the offspring could equally likely to receive e their allele
Law of segregation
The allele inherited for one trait is unrelated to the allele inherited for another trait
Law of indecent assortment
