Use tú commands (mandatos familiares) when you want to…
…give an order or advice to someone you normally address with the familiar tú.
Affirmative tú commands usually have the same form as the èl/ella form of the present indicative (present tense)
Ie: Imprime tu tarea para la clase de inglés.
Affirmative Tú Command Examples:
Hablar ➡️ habla ➡️ habla (tú)
Volver ➡️ vuelve ➡️ vuelve (tú)
Pedir ➡️ pide ➡️ pide (tú)
Irregular Affirmative Tú Commands:
Decir ➡️ di
Hacer ➡️ haz
Ir ➡️ ve
Poner ➡️ pon
Salir ➡️ sal
Ser ➡️ sé
Tener ➡️ ten
Venir ➡️ ven
Ir and Ser have the same tú command: context will determine their meaning
Ie: Ve al mercado con Julia.
Ie: Ve ese programa … es muy interesante.
Negative tú commands are formed by…
…dropping the final -o of the yo form of the present tense.
For -ar verbs, add -es.
For -er and -it verbs, add -as.
Negative Tú Command Examples:
Hablar ➡️ hablo ➡️ no hables (tú)
Volver ➡️ vuelvo ➡️ no vuelvas (tú)
Pedir ➡️ pido ➡️ no pidas (tú)
Verbs with irregular yo forms maintain the same irregularity and their negative tú commands. These verbs include:
- Conducir (no conduzcas)
- Conocer (no conozcas)
- Decir (no digas)
- Hacer (no hagas)
- Ofrecer (no ofrezcas)
- Oír (no oigas)
- Poner (no pongas)
- Salir (no salgas)
- Tener (no tengas)
- Traducir (no traduzcas)
- Traer (no traigas)
- Venir (no vengas)
- Ver (no veas)
Negative tú commands keep their stem-change. Examples:
No pierdas tu celular.
No vuelvas a esa gasolinera.
In negative tú commands,verbs ending in -car, -gar, and -zar have a spell change. Examples:
Sacar ➡️ c:qu ➡️ no saques
Apagar ➡️ g:gu ➡️ no apagues
Almorzar ➡️ z:c ➡️ no almuerces
Irregular Negative Tú Commands:
Dar ➡️ no des
Estar ➡️ no estés
Ir ➡️ no vayas
Saber ➡️ no sepas
Ser ➡️ no seas
