What is conformity?
A form of social influence where group pressure (real or imagined) results in a change of behaviour but not necessarily attitudes.
What is compliance?
Conforming with majority but NOT AGREEING with them
- Change due to wanting to be accepted or approved
What is internalisation?
Takes on behaviour and beliefs of majority
- Private and public change
What is identification?
Elements of both compliance and internalisation
- Accepts beliefs due to admiration but the reason is to be accepted not necessarily belief
What is Normative social influence?
Conforming to be accepted and liked
- Associated with compliance
What is Informational social influence?
Conforming based on our desire to be right
- Look to others for the right opinions and how to behave
