The possessive pronoun alone following a noun is expressed in English by “of” followed by the possessive pronoun ( of mine, of ours, of his etc.).In Spanish there is no need to add de (of).
The friend of hers is pretty.
This use of the possessive pronoun adds emphasis to the owner of the object, whereas tthe use of the possessive adjective usually emphasises the object owned.
La amiga suya es bonita.
The car of his (His car) is a classic.
El coche suyo es un clásico.
Those colleagues of mine are very clever.
Esos colegas míos son muy listo.
A friend (m) of mine works here.
Un amigo mÍo trabaja aquÍ.
A friend (f) of mine lives here.
