1.1 Points, Lines, and Planes Flashcards
concepts are so basic that it is impossible to write a definition that does not refer the term being defined.
Undefined term
names a location and has no dimension.
point
names a straight path of points in a plane.
line
is a flat surface it has no thickness.
plane
is a point at an end of a segment or the starting point of a ray.
endpoint
is a point of a line that starts at an end endpoint and extends forever on one direction.
ray
is part of a line consisting of two endpoints and all points between them.
line segment
between the two points is a measure of the length of the shortest line segment that would connect them.
distance
points and lines that lie on the same plane.
coplanar
points that lie on the same line.
collinear
A line segment can be bisected using a compass and straightedge to find the midpoint.
bisect
is a statement that is accepted as true without proof.
posrulate
Two segments that have the same length and you can write a congruence statement using the symbol
congruent
is a segment that the points that bisects the segment into two congruent segments.
