1.1 Points, Lines, and Planes Flashcards
Axiom/Postulate
An accepted statement of fact
Implication
A conclusion that follows from previous stated ideas or reasoning without being explicitly stated
Representation
A way to describe or display information.
Collinear points
points that lie on the same line
Coplannar
Points and lines that lie in the same place
Intersection
The intersection of 2 or more geometric features
line
straight path
opposite ray
2 rays with the same endpoint from a line
Plane
a flat surface; no thickness
point
indicates location and has no size
Ray
a part of a line that consists of two endpoints and all between them
Segment
a part of a line that consists of 2 endpoints and all between them
space
the set of all points in 3-dimensions
Congruent segments
two segments that are congruent (same lengths)
Coordinate
The real number that corresponds to a point (4, 7)
Distance
The distance between two points is the absolute value of the difference of their coordinates. The length from one point to the next without negatives.
Midpoint
A point that divides the segment into two congruent segments.
Segment Bisector
a point, line, ray or another segment that intersects a segment at its midpoint (or bisects it)
Acute angle
when an angle measures between 0-89 degrees
Angle
Two rays with the same endpoint
Congruent angles
Angles with the same measure
Measure of an angle
Absolute value of the difference of the real numbers
Midpoint
A point on a segment that divides the segment into two seperate pieces
Adjacent Angle
are two coplar angles with a common side
