11 Organ Systems Flashcards
What protects the underlying tissue?
Skin, hair , nails
What does the Integumentary system do?
It regulates temperature by controlling blood flow, to the surface of the skin, where heat can be released
How many muscles are in the Human Body?
650
How do muscles create movement
By contracting and Relaxing
What does the circulatory system do?
It transports oxygen, proteins, and nutrients chemicals to all parts of the body
What does blood carry when it is pumped out of the heart?
Nutrient chemicals, oxygen, proteins
What does blood carry when coming back to the heart?
- Carbon dioxide gets dropped off at the lungs
- liquid waste gets dropped of at the bladder
What is the Main Organ in the Nervous System
The Brain
What are the other things that make up the nervous system?
Nerves and Sense receptors
What does the transportation system in the nervous system do?
It sends and receives electrical chemicals, messages , and information throughout the body
What does the Lymphatic system do?
It is a network of vessels that collect fluid from tissues and return it to the blood
What does the lymphatic system produce?
Produces white blood cells and anti-bodies to fight
What is the main organ in the respiratory system?
lungs
What does the respiratory system do?
Provides the site for the critical exchanges of gases
- absorption of Oxygen
- and the release of carbon dioxide
What is the Endocrine system?
It has many body process that are directed by hormones
How are the chemicals or hormones released?
They are released by glands of this system
Ex. Thyroid gland ( adrenaline), testosterone, estrogen
What does the digestive system do?
Breaks down the food into chemical nutrients that’s absorbed by the blood into the small intestines and then the cells
What does the excretory system do?
Blood delivers liquid waste to the bladder
Expels waste from the body in the form of urine
What is the reproductive system?
Male organs( testes) produce sperm cells to carry half of the genetic material for the off spring
Female organs ( ovaries) produce eggs which provides the other half of the genetic material for the off spring
The Female organs ( uterus) which nourishes and shelters the unborn baby
