Q

Write a CER response to: Are viruses living/dead.

A

Example of very simple CER response:
I believe that viruses are not living things. Some evidence that supports this claim includes the fact that viruses simply do not have enough traits that most living things do have. For example, viruses do not require an energy or carbon source to survive. They also do not grow or produce any waste. All living things - for example: dogs, humans, etc. - need energy and carbon to survive. Also, if they consume things, they need to produce waste. Most living things also grow, which is important in helping it mature and eventually die.

Q

Why is program important for living things?

A

A living thing needs its programming, its DNA/RNA to survive and function.

Q

Why is metabolism important for living things?

A

A living thing must be able to use the energy they consume to grow and function.

Q

Why is container important for living things?

A

All living things need a container to keep them up and keep all the thing they need inside - for example, humans and animals have skin, cells have membranes, etc.

18
Q

What is a cell? What is special about it?

A

The smallest unit capable of carrying out all the life processes

19
Q

What is an example of an organ?

A

The heart

20
Q

What is an example of an organism?

A

Bacteria

21
Q

What is the difference between a community and a ecosystem? What is added to them to make them different?

A

A community is all of the different populations in an area, while an ecosystem is all of the different populations and abiotic organisms that live in an area. Abiotic organisms are added to make them different.

22
Q

What is the difference between an organ and an organism?

A

An organ is a group of tissues that form a unit that performs specific functions, while an organism is a group of organs that form a system and perform specific functions.

23
Q

What is an example of a organelle?

A

Mitochondria

24
Q

What is an example of a cell membrane?

A

Cell membranes

25
Q

What is the difference between a biome and the biosphere?

A

A biome are similar ecosystems around the planet, while the biosphere is the different ecosystems that make up Earth itself.

26
Q

What are some examples of what the program does in PMC?

A

It gives the organism DNA and RNA that gives it certain functions such as reproduction.

27
Q

What are some examples of what metabolism does in PMC?

A

It helps the organism receive and use energy and grow.

28
Q

What are some examples of what container does in PMC?

A

The container keeps the organism together and acts like a cell membrane - controlling what goes in and out and how to react to certain things.
