Which is the most critical advantage of using the “Click” concept for polymer functionalization?

There are several. Efficiency, High Yield and High selectivity are the main factors.

Is there a disadvantage/challenge with thiol-ene reactions?
A
A thiolene reaction is a radical reaction and therefore not as selective. The selectivity is slightly lower than for normal cupper catalyzed Click chemistry.

Which form of degradation is the more critical?
A
Depends on the use, but weathering is the most general form of degradation as oxygen and light can lead to the polymer becoming brittle and losing mechanical properties.
