11 - equilibrium 2 Flashcards
what is a homogeneous reaction?
all reactants and products are in the same phase e.g. all gases, all aqueous, etc.
what is the only factor to affect the equilibrium constant?
temperature
what is a heterogeneous reaction?
a reaction where at least one of the reactants and/or products is in a different phase to others
how do we calculate partial pressure?
mole fraction x total pressure
mole fraction of A = number of moles of A/total number of moles of gas
what phase is not included in Kp (or Kc)?
solids
what effect does temperature have on Kp and Kc?
exothermic reaction - increased temp = decreased K
endothermic reaction - increased temp = increased K
what happens to equilibrium when temperature is changed?
increased temp shifts equilibrium in endothermic direction
NOTE TO SELF
haven’t made notes on p16-17 as feel like it is common sense however read through/make more fc is necessary!!
