1.1 - Electron wave functions, orbitals, & electron configuration Flashcards
What is electromagnetic radiation?
Electromagnetic radiation is light.
Is light a photon, particle, or both?
Light is both a photon and a particle, so both.
What does “λ = wavelength” represent?
“λ = wavelength” of light represents the distance between two peaks of the wave.
What does “c = λν” represent?
“c = λν” represents the speed of light constant.
What does “ν = frequency” represent?
“ν = frequency” represents the number of full wavelengths over a certain period of time.
What are the properties of light to the left of the electromagnetic spectrum?
They have: the lowest “E = energy of a single photon”, the lowest “ν = frequency”, and the longest “λ = wavelength”.
What are the properties of light to the right of the electromagnetic spectrum?
They have: the highest “E = energy of a single photon”, the highest “ν = frequency”, and the shortest “λ = wavelength”.
