11 - Duration of registration

How long is the registration valid for?

10 years from the registration date, renewable in 10 year blocks indefinitely

Can the mark be restored?

Restoration is possible within six months of removal by filing a form, renewal fee and
restoration fee. In practice, UKIPO also requires a Witness Statement or Statutory
Declaration detailing the reasons why the renewal was not timely filed. There should
have been a continuing underlying intention to maintain the registration. Restoration is at the UKIPO’s discretion. It is necessary to demonstrate that the failure to renew was unintentional.

Can a partial renewal be made?

Yes, it’s possible to renew for some classes and / or goods/services only

Does the renewal deadline expire or rollover if it falls on a non-business day for the UKIPO (i.e. bank holiday or weekend)?

The deadline rolls over to the next business day.
