Social definition of crime
Actions that are labelled as criminal by the majority of society but it is not necessarily illegal.
Legal definition of crime
Behaviour that goes against the written law, punished (If caught) by the legal system.

Deviance
Primary - When a person or group goes against the social norms and values of a society but offenders are not permanently stigmatised as deviant.
Secondary - When a person or group is deemed as deviant due to pre-existing labels and stereotypes just because they may look a certain way or fit into the typical appearance people deem ‘criminal’.

Wearing pjamas outside during the daytime Dying hair unnatural colours Facial piercings Tattoos Taboo language (swear words)

Verbal warnings Social exclusion Name calling Discrimination Behaviour being permanently labelled.
Odd behaviour
A form of deviance that makes an individual stand out, not necessarily harmful.
Bad behaviour
A form of deviance that is negative and usually verging on criminal in some way.
Admired behaviour
A form of deviance which is considered to be positive behaviour despite going against social norms.
