Collaboration - definition & key elements
facilitating communication, trust, and pathways that enable health professionals to provide safe, woman-centred care (a common goal). It enables women to be active participants in their care.
Consultation & Referral
Obligation for consultation & referral - a midwife must recognise when care required falls out of their scope of practice, and therefore refer the woman to the appropriate help needed
DISCUSS - care is provided by the midwife
CONSULT - consult with a relevant medical practitioner or healthcare professional
REFER - refer to the relevant healthcare provider
Maternity & Newborn capability levels
Levels 1-3: Local care for healthy women and babies at low risk
Level 4: Local care for women and babies with some risk requiring additional care
Level 5-6: Local care for all women and babies. Regional/statewide care for women and babies at high risk
Telehealth for “complex” pregnancies
Telehealth - real time and remote monitoring of antenatal women via phone call appointments
Remote monitoring - the use of technology to replace aspects of the physical examinations e.g., ‘at home’ blood pressure, fetal HR. These technologies are wearable or portable devices.
Benefits - global cost benefit, patient satisfaction, no increase in adverse maternal & neonatal outcomes,
