1.1 Architecture Network Flashcards
1.1 Explain the different design principles used in an enterprise network 1.1.a Enterprise network design such as Tier 2, Tier 3, and Fabric Capacity planning 1.1.b High availability techniques such as redundancy, FHRP, and SSO
Cisco Enterprise Architecture model is made up of what 4 models?
- Enterprise Campus
- Enterprise Edge aka Internet Edge
- Service Provider Edge aka Service Block
- Remote Locations aka Dat Center
Enterprise Campus Module uses what kind of network design?
Hierarchical
Enterprise Campus Hierarchical Network design is made up of what 3 layers aka modular blocks, and what are their functions?
- Core
- backbone
- high-speed routing, transferring data from point A to point B. - Distribution
- aggregates point for access layer
- using switches to segment workgroups and isolate network problems
- acts as services and control boundary between access and core - Access aka Network Edge
- used to grant users access to network devices
- where endpoints access the network
- users have direct access to the network
A campus network spans a fixed geographic area. It consists of a building or a group of buildings connected into one network, which consists of many network segments. This module follows a three-tier architecture with access, distribution and core tiers, but it includes network services, normally inside a data center sub-module. The data center sub-module centralizes server resources that provide services to internal users, such as application, file, email, and Doman Name System (DNS) servers. It typically supports network management services for the enterprise, including monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting. Inside the data center sub-module, the architecture is a spine-leaf.
Enterprise Campus
What module provides the connectivity outside the enterprise. This module often functions as an intermediary between the enterprise campus module, to which it connects via its core and other modules. It can contain sub-modules that provide internet connectivity to one or more ISP, termination for remote access and site-to-site VPN, WAN Connectivity, via purchased WAN services (MPLS), metro ethernet, a synchronous optical network (SONET), and so on.
Enterprise Edge
What module provides connectivity between the enterprise’s main site and its remote locations? This module also functions and features are determined by the service agreements between the enterprise and the providers.
Service Provider Edge

The access layer is also commonly referred to as the _____.
a. endpoint layer
b. aggregation layer
c. end-user layer
d. network edge
d. network edge
What is the maximum number of distribution switches that can be deployed within a hierarchical LAN design building block?
a. Four
b. Two
c. Six
d. No limit
b. Two
What layer services below functions?
- Layer 2 switching
- high availability
- Port security
- QoS classification and marking and trust boundaries
- ARP inspection
- Virtual access controls lists (VACLs)
- Spanning Tree
- Power Over Etherent (PoE) and auxiliary VLANs for VoIP
access layer
What layer services below function?
- the boundary between the Layer 2 domains and the Layer 3 routed network
- focal point for wiring closets
- aggregation of LAN or WAN links
- policy-based security in the form of access control lists and filtering.
- routing services between LANs and VLANs and between routing domains (EIGRP to OSPF)
- redundancy and load balancing
- boundary for route aggregation and summarization configured on interfaces toward the core layer
- broadcast domain control, because routers or mulitlayer switches do not forward broadcasts. The device acts as the demarcation point between broadcast domains
Distribution Layer
What layer services below function?
- network backbone
- highly available and redundant
- forward large amounts of data quickly
- providing high speed switching (fast transport)
- providing reliability and fault tolerance
- scaling by using faster, and not more equipment
- avoiding CPU-intensvie packet manipulation caused by security, inspection, quality of service (Q0S) classification or other processes
CoreLayer
In a collapsed core which layers are combined?
distribution layer and core layre functions are implanted by a single device
Which of the following enterprise network architectures is also known as the collapsed core?
Three-tier design
Simplified campus design
Two-tier design
Leaf–spine design
Two-tier design
