Difference between culture and religion
Culture defines the social forces within a community involving it’s behaviour, foods, and it’s overall traditions
Religion defines how the community members interpret their role in the universe (what they believe in)
How is the mikmaq culture unique
They have traditions like no other culture has. They believe in different things, they make their own medicines, they hunt a lot of their food and pray for the animal that gave up its life so they could eat. They have pow wows and Sun Dances that a lot of cultures don’t have.
Education pre contact
The mikmaq knowledge was passed on from generation to generation. They depend on their knowledge of seasons, weather, animals, plants hunting and survival skills. Their education included the teaching of traditional hunting, shelter building, food perpetration and sewing skills. Traditional stories and histories wet passed on orally
Education post contact
Today the mikmaq go to the public school because few reserves have their own school, more and more mikmaq are graduating from school and many are going to university. Traditional mikmaq skills are not seen as very important today and is slowly disappearing
What is the the difference between spirituality a religion
Religion is an organized into tuition with a set of beliefs. While spiritually is a board concept with room for many perspectives it also means looking for a connection to something bigger

2 different species the ones in cape Breton are from Alberta and the ones in the main land are originally from Nova Scotia
