1.1-1.3 Study Guide Flashcards
How is the structure of a human’s tooth different from a lion’s tooth?
Lion’s have large sharp pointy teeth, however a human’s teeth are flat and bumpy.
What is structure?
How and what something is made up of.
What is function?
The use of an object.
Why does the structure of a human’s front teeth differ from a human’s back teeth that leeds to a difference in function?
The structure of a human’s front teeth are more pointing than the ones in the back, which are more bumpy. The front teeth’s function is used more to tear off the pieces of their food. The back teeth’s function is to grind the food for digestion.
What does the PMC model stand for?
Program, Metabolism, Container.
What are characteristics/ requirements that living things need?
Fuel source, oxygen, reproduction.
What does the program in the PMC model mean?
Program means that DNA holds the structure of living things/ reproduce
What does the Metabolism in the PMC model mean?
Metabolism means that it is getting/using energy that leads to building more molecules/growth
What does Container in the PMC model mean?
Container means that the cell membrane is contained
What are some examples of non living things?
Rock, coal, car, soil.
What is the basic building foundation of anything?
An atom
What is the difference between a molecule and an organelle?
A molecule is multiple atoms bound together while an organelle is the structure that is preformed inside a cell.
What is the difference between a biome and biosphere?
A biome is all the similar ecosystems while a biosphere is all the different ecosystems around the world
What is an example of an atom?
carbon, hydrogen
A group of what that works together to make an organ?
Tissue
