Solve x + 5 = 9
x = 4
Solve -2x/3 = 5/12
x = 15/24
Solve 4x + 5x = 27
9x = 27, so x = 3
Solve 3y/4 = 12

Let N be number. 2N + 7 = 37.
So 2N = 30 and N = 15.

How can you tell if a sequence is linear?
The first difference will be constant.
What sort of equation will give you a constant second difference?
A quadratic equation. Something with an x^2 in it.

Term = 3n +1 When n = 1 Term = 3 x 1 + 1 = 4
Substitute x = -1 in the equation
x^2 - 3x + 6

y = mx + c
The equation for a line is y = 4x - 4. What is the gradient and what is the y-intercept?
Gradient = 4 and y-intercept = -4
How do you canculate the gradient?
Change in y divided by change in x or dy/dx or rise/run.
Solve x^2 = 36
x = +/- 6 Either +6 or -6 can be the answer.
Solve (x - 2)( x + 3) =0
x = 2 and x = -3 Make each bracket =0 and solve for x
Solve x(5x - 1) =0
x = 0 and x = 1/5.
Factorize and solve
x^2 + 6x + 8 = 0
(x + 2)(x + 4) = 0
So x = -2 and x = -4

What is bias in a statistical enquiry?
An effect that favours one or more of the elements you are studying. This is not a good thing.
What are the three measures of central tendency (average) used in statistics and what do they mean?
Mean = the calculated average.
Mode = the most frequent number.
Median = the middle value.
How do you calculate the range?
Maximum value - minimum value.
What is the Inter Quartile Range (IQR)?
The Upper Quartile - the Lower Quartile.
How do you draw a Stem and Leaf chart?
Draw a stem which has the most significant number evenly spread out from lowest down to highest. Draw the leaves, Each leaf is the last significant figure of the data. Draw the key, this explains how to read the chart.
What sorts of relationships can you have in a scatter graph?
Strong or weak. Positive, Negative, or No relationship.
