What is an A check?
Performed every 500-800 hours
Or 200-400 cycles
Duration of check is 20-50 hours
Usually performed over night at terminal or hangar
Can an A check be delayed?
Yes
By operator if certain predetermined conditions are met
What is a B-Check?
Performed every four to six months
Duration of check is approximately 150 man hours
A-1 through A-10 complete all the B-check items
What is a C- Check?
Performed every 20-24 months or a specific amount of actual flight hours as defined by manufacturer
Can require up to 6000 man hours
What is a D check?
Known as Heavy Maintenance Visit (HMV)
Occurs approximately every 5 years
Entire aircraft stripped
Paint completely removed
Can demand up to 50,000 man hours
2 months to complete
Most expensive
Aircraft undergoes 2-3 D checks before its retired
What is an airworthiness directive?
Issued by the CAA when an aircraft has been determined unsafe and could occur on other aircraft
Must communicate what is the unsafe condition
The action required to remain safe
What is a SSAD?
Sensitive security airworthiness directives
What is a service bulletin?
Issued by manufacturer
Not mandatory but aids the performance of the aircraft
Who issues service bulletins?
Manufacturer
What is an alert service bulletin?
Issued in matters requiring urgent attention
Must contain service bulletin number
What is a standard service bulletin?
Issued where the use of alert service bulletins are not required

The de- activation and re-activation index shows in numerical sequence all the MMEL and CDL items which require a maintenance action with the corresponding AMM task number
