10.5 Harpoon Flashcards
What is the nomenclature for the Harpoon?
AGM-84D Block 1C
The operational sustainer section is identified by a painted ______ band around the section.
Brown
The harpoon uses _____ inch hook spacing
30
Note regarding MSHOT use in FR-40
MSHOT attack mode and the ESBL mode are not authorized for use in FR-40.
What are some characteristics of BOL?
MOWN D
Manual launch One or two missiles With or without waypoint Destruct range and search enable range No DTOT
RBL characteristics
MOWN
One or two missiles
Waypoint, with or without
Manual launch
No DTOT
What is the only mode of harpoon release that allows for search priority?
RBL Large
What does DTOT stand for?
Designated time on target
What is the estimated time frame to accomplish a DTOT?
9-14 minutes
In addition to RBL settings, DTOT requires which additional information?
Direction relative to target (for waypoint placement)
What is the warning associated with DTOT use?
Automatic waypoint placement in DTOT mode is a function of timing only. The operator must consider geographical and territorial constraints, and location of neutral shipping while using this mode to prevent unintentional injury or loss of life.
What does STOT stand for?
Simultaneous time on target
What is the difference between DTOT and STOT?
DTOT = specific time of impact STOT = impact at the same time but time is not specified
STOT characteristics
Two missiles required
Way point must be selected - other is computed
RBL large search pattern
Must be within 10 nm of Max LAR
SHOULD apply normal search priority in spread
What are the two types of STOT?
Spread
Wing
Warning regarding waypoint placement in STOT
Automatic waypoint placement in STOT mode is a function of timing only. The operator must consider geographical and territorial constraints, and location of neutral shipping while using this mode to prevent unintentional injury or loss of life.
What does MSHOT stand for?
Multiple simultaneous harpoons on target
How is MSHOT different from other modes?
DTOT with up to four missiles
Do you have search priority in MSHOT?
Yes
RBL large only
Can you release a single harpoon in MSHOT? If so, what is required?
Yes
A waypoint is required
Note regarding MSHOT use in FR-40
MSHOT mode is not authorized in FR-40.
Harpoon seeker buy back
12 off, 1 back
Kill ready requirements for harpoon
Seeker on for approx 15 seconds
Master arm on
Missile within parameters
AC in safe separation limits
M vs A on kill stores tab for harpoon
Manual release
Auto release
Which mode of harpoon release is the only auto release?
MSHOT
Can MSHOT be release manually?
Yes
Number of missiles available for:
MSHOT BOL RBL DTOT STOT
MSHOT 1-4
BOL, RBL, DTOT 1-2
STOT 2
Are fuze settings available for Block 1C?
No
Note regarding STOT and search priority
During STOT mode, use of any option other than Normal may cause unintended search priority results.
ReAttack capability for Block 1C vs Block 1G
ReAttack for Block 1G
Note regarding ESBL use
ESBL is not authorized in FR40
What does MiLAR stand for?
MSHOT initial launch acceptability region
What does LAR stand for?
In-range Launch Acceptability Region
Attack heading area
The area shown is approximately +/- __ degrees offset from the planned waypoint. This is a software planning limitation for weapon timing.
70
There are two launch points on the TSD during an MSHOT. The fixed or planned launch point appears ______. The second or floating launch point appears ______, and moves based on current early/late calculations by TOMS, indicating where the first missile launch point will be in order to meet DTOT.
White = fixed Orange = floating launch point
Regarding MiLARs, what is the difference between the solid and dashed lines?
Placement of LP in solid MiLAR will give you STOT
Placement of LP in dashed MiLAR will not give you STOT
What does CTOT stand for?
Current time on target
If release now, missiles will hit at time XXXX
No Valid Solution for Planned STOT Mission
A valid solution will generally become available when the aircraft is within 10 nm of the Max Range LAR.
No Valid Solution for Planned DTOT Mission
A valid solution will generally become available when the current time is within 9-14 minutes of the planned DTOT. If the waypoint moves to create a direct path between the aircraft and the target you will also receive this alert. Weapon release must occur prior to the waypoint moving.
Max Off Axis Launch Limit Exceeded
The aircraft heading relative to the waypoint or target is greater than 90 degrees.
Target Range Exceeds Max MSL Range
Aircraft is not in LAR
Can you shoot the harpoon when you are outside of the LAR?
Yes, but you much select override not in range on the kill stores tab
Can you release a harpoon out of the safe separation limits?
No
It is required for a kill ready and is listed on page 10-175 NATIP
In FR30 and FR40, alerts that cannot be overridden will appear with a ______ background. In FR30 and FR40, selecting Override Not In Range overrides the following alerts:
In FR30 and FR40, alerts that cannot be overridden will appear with a YELLOW background. In FR30 and FR40, selecting Override Not In Range overrides the following alerts:
- Target Range Exceeds Max MSL Range;
- Aircraft or Waypoint Too Close to Target for Seeker Turn On;
- BOL Destruct Range Exceeds Max MSL Range;
- BOL Destruct Range Less than Min MSL Range;
- BOL Enable Range is too close to Destruct Range;
- BOL Enable Range Exceeds Max MSL Range;
- BOL Enable Range Less than Min MSL Range.
Warning regarding missile abort after ITL
If a missile is aborted after ITL, the missile battery may have been squibbed. Failure to leave the umbilical connected to the missile and place the missile in a safe area for 2.5 hours from ITL initiation may cause an unsafe situation. Notify the load team and EOD personnel of the ITL initiation.
