1001: Mobile Devices Flashcards
What is the biggest concern when replacing a laptop keyboard?
Damaging the data cable connector on the motherboard
Other than size, what makes a 2.5” hard drive better for laptop use as opposed to a 3.5”?
Lower power consumption (half the power)
What are the two types of LCD screens used in Laptops?
Passive and Active matrix
Describe the functionality of a passive matrix LCD screen.
A row of transistors across the top and down the side of the screen send pulses down and across the screen, intersections tell each pixel what to display
Why does an active matrix display generally provide higher display brightness and refresh rates?
It uses a separate transistor for each individual pixel
What is the biggest drawback to Twisted Nematic (TN) LCD screens?
Color distortions when viewed from wide angles
What improvements does In-plane Switching (IPS) provide over TN when talking about LCD screens?
Wider viewing angles and better color quality (but is more expensive and has slower response time)
How are LED screens similar to LCD screens?
Both use liquid crystals to express the images on the screen
Which provides better color representation: WLED screens or RGB LED screens?
RGB LED
How do organic materials in an OLED screen emit light?
The organic materials respond to electrical currents
Newer technologies allow for screens to be rolled up or display images while still being transparent. What type of screen technology is used in these screens?
OLED
What is the purpose of an inverter?
Converts DC power to AC power that can be used by an LCD screen
How is a digitizer implemented on a touchscreen device?
Digitizer is usually a thin, clear material on the surface of the screen
Why would moving a laptop affect the strength of a wireless signal?
It changes the polarity of the antenna
What is the difference between IMEI and IMSI in regards to mobile phone identification standards?
IMEI - identifies the physical device
IMSI - Identifies the SIM card
