Philip wanted English out of France, so attacked English owned Gascony & Guienne.

The wine trade under threat, Edward decided to go to war with France.

Philip VI wanted land of Flanders under his control. People of Flanders depended on English for wool.

Philip persuaded Count of Flanders to stop all trade with England. Flemish people disobeyed Count. Edward promised to protect them and defend trade.

Philip very angry.

Edward also took title King of France claiming throne through his mother Isabella who was a French princess.
