What are the Six Chief Parts of the Christian faith?
Ten Commandments, Creed, Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, Lord’s Supper, Office of the Keys.
What are the three evil powers?
The devil, the world, our own flesh.
What is the purpose of the Bible?
To point us to Jesus Christ.
Why is the Bible dependable?
It is inspired by the Holy Spirit and therefore it is without error and is true.
Why are you here on earth?
So that I may glorify God now and enjoy him forever.
What is God’s Law?
It shows us our sins.
What is God’s Gospel?
It shows us our Savior.
What are the three uses of the Law?
Mirror, curb, and a guide.
What are the two Tables of the Law?
Love your God and love your neighbor.
What is the summary of the Law?
Love.
What does it mean to have other gods before God?
It means to fix our hearts on and to trust elsewhere other than the true God.
What is the most common form of idolatry?
Money.
What is the worst form of idolatry?
Works righteousness (trying to earn your way to heaven).
How are we to use God’s Name?
In prayer, praise, and thanksgiving.
How can we misuse our time in worship?
When we do not listen, believe, or do what it says.
In the Fourth Commandment, who is meant by “mother and father?”
Our parents, pastors, teachers, government officials, employers, aged, etc.
What are some of the sins included in the Fifth Commandment?
Murder, suicide, abortion, euthanasia, hatred, anger, bitter words, etc.
Who gave us marriage? What is marriage?
God. It is the lifelong union of man and woman in one flesh.
What are some of the dangers to purity?
Indecent books, pictures, magazines, shows. Bad companions. Immodest dress. Idleness.
What are some helps toward purity?
Prayer and the Lord’s Supper. Being busy in work and play. The fear of God.
What are the three stages of temptation?
Desire, sin, death.
What is a Christian Steward?
Someone who takes care of all the things God gives to him.
For what purposes should we use God’s gifts?
For supporting ourselves, our loved ones, the poor and needy, the church and mission work.
What does God forbid in the Eight Commandment?
To lie about our neighbor.
Give some ways we can keep the Eight Commandment
Defend, speak well of others, explain their actions in the kindest way.
What is coveting?
Having a sinful desire for anyone or anything that belongs to our neighbor.
What is contentment?
Knowing that God has given me everything that I need, especially my Savior Jesus Christ.
What are some things we should desire?
Wisdom, knowledge of God, skill, abilities, service to others.
What is a creed?
A statement of belief.
Why do Christians have creeds?
To confess our faith, to defend the truth, and to praise God.
What three Creeds does the Christian Church confess?
Apostles’, Nicene, Athanasian.
Who is the true God?
The Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
What are the only two religions in the world?
The false religion that teaches people can earn their way to heaven (works righteousness). The true religion that teaches that people are saved by God’s gift of salvation (salvation by grace).
Why can’t the teaching of evolution be accepted as true or scientific?
By faith we accept what the Word of God teaches about creation. Also, because evolution is a theory it is also accepted by faith and is not scientific because it is not observable or verifiable.
Give some ways Jesus was humbled.
Conceived, born, suffered, crucified, died, buried.
Give some ways that Jesus was exalted.
Descended, rose, ascended, sits at God’s right hand, return to judge.
What does the name “Jesus” mean?
Savior.
What does the title “Christ” mean?
Messiah or the Anointed One.
What are Jesus’ two natures?
Human and Divine.
