Collective Action Problem
Difficulty in achieving a common goal WHEN individuals have conflicting interests, leading to free-riding. Overcoming it requires coordination and cooperation.
Judicial Activism
Philosophy where judges interpret the Constitution TO promote social or political change, INVOLVING a broader interpretation of constitutional rights.
The “Two Publics”
Concept highlighting the dif between an attentive public (informed and engaged in politics) AND a mass public (less informed and less active).
Judicial Review
Power of courts to review and potentially invalidate government actions, ensuring compliance with the constitution. A key element of checks and balances.
Proportional Representation
Electoral system where parties gain seats in proportion to the number of votes they receive, encouraging diverse representation.
Civic Activism
Involvement of citizens in activities aimed at influencing or changing the government, including protests, advocacy, and community organizing.
