Ethylene oxide = 3-6 hours
Used for delicate instruments (scopes)
24 hrs of aeration necessary to let ethylene oxide out because it irritates tissues
How does radiation sterilization work
Used for commercially bought disposable stuff
How does chemical sterilization work
2% glytaraldehyde aq Used for heat sensitive stuff Codex - buffered alkaline solution or glutaraldehyde Sonacide - potentiated acid solution Alcohol - effective in absence of spores
