1.0 General Overview Flashcards
Draw the generic Communication System Model
What does the input transducer do?
Converts the input message into an electrical signal.
What does the transmitter do?
Produces a transmit signal that is suited for channel
Modulates, amplifies, filters
Why do we modulate signals?
To conform to hardware limitations
Increase resistance to Noise and Interference
Frequency assignment and multiplexing
Describe the transmitted signal
Signal which travels through the medium
What does the channel do?
(The medium) Connects the transmitter and reciever.
Where is Noise most significant?
At the receiver
What is distortion? What causes it?
Perturbation of the waveform. Caused by imperfect response of electronic components.
What are some causes of loss expereinced by the received signal?
Attenuation
Free space loss
fading
refleciton
refraction
diffraction
scattering
What does the receiver do?
Detects and demodulates
Purpose of a communication system?
To create an acceptable reproduction of the source message at the destination.
