10 Flight Controls Flashcards
What are the operating modes for the flight controls?
- normal mode,
- secondary mode and
- direct mode.
Is aileron trim possible with the autopilot engaged?
No.
Is yaw damping available in direct mode?
No.
If you are reconfiguring with the autopilot disengaged, should you use the manual pitch trim?
Manual pitch trim is only required for a change in speed. Manual pitch trim is not required if you are reconfiguring at the same speed.
Can you use the manual pitch trim with the autopilot engaged?
No. The manual pitch trim is inhibited with the autopilot engaged.
Which manual pitch trim mechanism has priority?
The alternate pitch trim commands have priority over the control column pitch trim commands for all flight control modes.
After setting the pitch trim in the green band, the EICAS displays the “STAB GREENBAND” advisory message. What does this mean?
The nose gear oleo strut pressure switch disagrees with the FMC computed stabiliser green band. The gross weight or CG or both may be incorrect.
How does the alternate pitch trim system work?
The alternate trim switches move the trim reference speed in normal mode and move the stabiliser directly in all modes. The alternate pitch trim switches control the Stabiliser Trim Control Modules (SCTM) which can move the stabiliser.
When are spoilers 5 and 10 operational?
Only during low speed operations.
Spoilers 5 and 10 are not available in flight as speed brakes.
How are spoilers 4 and 11 controlled?
Mechanically by cable from the control wheels.
Unless the speed brake lever is moved close to UP. In which case, spoilers 4 and 11 operate symmetrically as speed brakes.
Can the speed brakes be used in flight?
Yes. The speed brakes can be used at any time during flight. Extension to intermediate positions is possible.
In primary mode, the flaps and slats use which hydraulic system?
The centre hydraulic system.
In primary mode, the flaps and slats use which hydraulic system?
The centre hydraulic system.
Can pitch trim selections be made at Vmo/Mmo?
Yes. Only nose up trim selections can be made at Vmo/Mmo. Over speed protection limits nose down trim selections at Vmo/Mmo.
At what bank angles does the bank angle pointer change to amber?
35 degrees.
Can Vmo/Mmo be exceeded?
Yes, but continuous forward control column force must be applied.
How can bank angle protection be overridden?
1) The automatic roll command to roll back to within 30 degrees of bank can be overridden by the pilot by continuous control column roll force.
2) Disengaging the autopilot by use of the autopilot disengage bar disables bank angle protection.
Is bank angle protection provided in all flight control modes?
No. Bank angle protection is not provided in secondary and direct modes.
