10. Controller-based Deploments Flashcards
On a wireless controller, what are the difference between controller ports and interfaces?
Controller port are physical connections to external devices.
Interfaces are logical connections made internally within the controller.
What are the four types of ports that could be on a controller?
Service port (switch access mode) Distribution system port (switch 802.1Q trunk) Console port Redundancy port (peer controller)
What is a service port used for?
Out-of-band management
System recovery
Initial boot functions
What is the distribution system port used for?
All normal AP and management traffic
The distribution system ports can be configured to operate independently or what 2 other ways?
Redundant pairs
LAG (link aggregation group)
What are the 5 types of interfaces are on a wireless controller?
Management interface AP-manager interface Virtual interface Service port interface Dynamic interface
What is a management interface on a wireless controller used for?
Normal management traffic, like user authentication, WLC-to-WLC communication, web based
and SSH sessions, SNMP, NTP, etc.
What is the AP-manager on a wireless controller used for?
It’s a dynamic interface used to terminate CAPWAP tunnels. If not created, CAPWAP will be terminated on management interface.
What is the virtual interface on a wireless controller used for?
IP address facing wireless clients when the controller is relaying client DHCP requests, performing client web authentication, and supporting client mobility.
What is a dynamic interface on a wireless controller used for?
Used to connect a VLAN to a WLAN.
What ports can be used to initially setup a wireless controller?
Service port
Console port
Initially before configuration, what IP address will a wireless controller get on its service port?
If it is connected to a vlan that has a dhcp server, it will get an IP address from the dhcp pool.
If there is no dhcp server, it will take the default IP address of 192.168.1.1/24
What are the configuration steps on a centralized controller using the configuration wizard?
- system access
- SNMP access
- service port
- LAG mode
- management interface
- RF mobility domain and country code
- virtual interface
- WLAN
- RADIUS server (optional-can skip)
- 802.11 support
- system clock
- save and reboot
What is the default username and password for a wireless controller?
admin
admin
What is the default SNMP settings on a wireless controller?
Version 1 is disabled
Version 2c is enabled
Version 3 is enabled
