Q

What is the purpose of the ten commandments?

A

Israelites had escaped slavery in Egypt. They were forming a new society, and they needed rules/guidelines to structure their new society. These guidelines helped them do gods will and provided a potentially peaceful and safe society. They needed this because they had been living under the reign of the Egyptians and only knew the life of a slave.

Q

who are the pharisees

A

Pharisees were commonly seen as middle-class businessmen, the minority of Sanhedrin, held a smaller amount of positions as priests and were more popular with the common man due to their similarities. Pharisees believe that God controls all things yet one’s own decisions are made individually from God. They also believed resurrection and the afterlife

Q

What caused them to unite at Jesus’ trial?

A

By setting aside their differences and agreeing upon the idea of sacrificing Jesus to the cross this would settle both sides of which were being opposed by Jesus ideologies and movements.
As previously disclosed, the Sadducees ideologies completely follow law and order, ruling out any greater being and influence upon the earth. It is evident and clear that Jesus would have proposed these perceptions put forth by the people.

18
Q

Why did they want to kill Jesus?

A

When Jesus claimed to be the Messiah it meant His authority outweighed their authority. The religious leaders did not believe His claims and were angry that some of the people, the deeds of Jesus also angered the religious leaders.

After seeing Jesus heal a demon-possessed man some of the multitude questioned if Jesus could be the Messiah, Jesus was also a threat to their religious system. He pointed out the hypocrisy that was connected with their practice. The Bible records that on two different occasions He came into the temple precincts and drove out the moneychangers.
