Anotomical Position
Standing erect, face forward, palms forward, and arms at sides
Superior
Above or closer to the head than any other part
Inferior
Below or closer to the feet than the other part
Anterial ( ventral)
Towards the front
Posterial ( dorsal)
Towards the back
Medial
Imaginary midline that divides the body into right and left halves. Something is medial if its is closer to this line than the other
Lateral
toward the side with respect to the midline
Proximal
a part that is closer to a point of attachment or to the trunk of the body
Distal
a part that is farther from the point of attachment or the trunk
Superficial
means near the surface
Peripheral
Also means near the surface and describes the location of certain blood vessels and nerves
Deep
Describes more internal parts
Saggital planes
Divides the body into right and left
Transverse Planes
Divides the body into superior (top) and inferior (bottom) parts
Front
divides the body into anterior (front) and posterior (back)
