Q

What is Incomplete Dominance

A

A type of inheritance in which the phenotype of a heterozygote is intermediate between phenotypes. (like when you have a white flower and red flower, instead of getting a white or red offspring you get pink)

Q

What is Codominance

A

You can show both traits equally. Like if you have an AB blood type, A and B are both dominant but they share codominance.

Q

What is Pleiotrophy

A

Plea = More
Trophy = Change
Pleiotrophy is the control of more than one phenotypic character by a single gene
(gene change that causes more change)

Q

What is Polygenic Inheritance

A

The additive effect of two or more genes on a single phenotypic character.
(examples include height, skin color, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, eye color)

Poly= many
Genic= genes or genetics

Multiple genes interacting

Q

What is Epigenetic and role of the Environment

A

Environmental something that changes your genetics

(young men are told not to work out too hard when they are going through growth because they could stunt their growth)

Epigenetics allows for individuals to adapt to their specific environment.

Q

How long will epigenetic effect offspring?

A

A trait that passes on from gen to gen but after a while disappears

(don’t fully understand why it stops)

Q

Chromosome theory of inheritance

A

Genes are located at specific positions (loci) on chromosomes and that the behavior of chromosomes during meiosis and fertilization accounts for inheritance patterns.

Q

Linked Genes

A

Genes close to each other have a tendency to travel with each other during meiosis and fertilization. this is called a linked gene.
